Critical connections to make and actions to take
Critical connections: "Even our seemingly modest actions make a difference: In a web, the potential impact of local actions bears no relationship to their size. When we choose to act locally, we may be wanting to influence the entire system... We never know how our small activities will affect others through the invisible fabric of our connectedness. I have learned that in this exquisitely connected world, it's never a question of 'critical mass.' It's always about critical connections."

Support Briana Waters
"Briana Waters is a devoted and loving mother of her three-year-old daughter. She is a professional musician and violin teacher based in Oakland, California. On March 15, 2006, she was falsely accused of participating in a politically motivated arson which took place at the University of Washington in May 2001.
Briana steadfastly maintains her innocence. She is a peaceful woman who believes in non-violence. In 2001, she directed a documentary, entitled Watch, which tells the moving true story of a peaceful campaign to save an old-growth forest in Washington state.
Briana's family, friends, and supporters were heartbroken and left in disbelief when a federal jury found her guilty of two counts of arson on March 6, 2008. She is currently detained while awaiting sentencing, which takes place on May 30, 2008. She faces a prison term of five to twenty years..."

Spread the word: speakers' bureaus
Women and Life on Earth is interested in bureaus and listings that offer women speakers on peace, ecology and global justice, as well as alternatives -- for life on earth.
As a start we recommend:
The YES! Speakers Bureau "can help your community or organization connect with a diverse set of social change leaders working for a more just, sustainable and compassionate world. The individuals we've listed in our Speakers Bureau can inform and inspire your group around many of the issues featured in YES! magazine."
Global Exchange Speakers "Offering intellectual and experiential expertise, Global Exchange's speakers explore crucial global issues, educating—and activating—students and community groups across the United States. Our speakers are primarily dynamic grassroots and community leaders who not only offer analysis, but also provide real solutions and opportunities to build powerful citizen coalitions. We organize extended biannual tours for our visiting speakers, and our permanent speakers are available year round for short tours or single events."
Women's Edge Coalition "If you need a dynamic, inspiring woman of color to speak on foreign policy and global women’s issues at your university, conference, church or synagogue, Women’s Edge Coalition has just the answer for you: our new speakers’ bureau, Global Stories, Local Voices."
