..."This year, among the Kochs’ aims is to spend a projected four hundred million dollars in contributions from themselves and a small group of allied conservative donors they have assembled, to insure Republican victories in the 2018 midterm elections. Ordinarily, political reporters for Time magazine would chronicle this blatant attempt by the Kochs and their allies to buy political influence in the coming election cycle. Will they feel as free to do so now?"...

Great victory! Fracking banned in New York State

This message from Boston-based "Mothers out Front" includes a moving interview with the leading scientific activist Dr. Sandra Steingraber.

Received on Dec. 19, 2014:
Today we are celebrating a tremendous victory for the climate movement and grassroots organizing. On Wednesday, December 17th, Governor Andrew Cuomo banned fracking in New York State! This announcement comes after more than six years of increasing political pressure on Governor Cuomo to ban fracking as people began to learn about, and take action around, this threat to their communities and the climate. Thousands and thousands of people came together to educate the public, rally, protest, make phone calls, and sign petitions. The result of this organizing and protesting? The state leaders listened to the concerns of the people.  Today we celebrate this victory of people power.

Watch this short video of mother, author, scientist, and activist Sandra Steingraber reacting to the decision.

As we celebrate this victory, we know that the climate science tells us that we must transition New York and every other state away from fossil fuels and toward a clean and renewable energy economy swiftly and completely. From oil trains, liquified natural and propane gas storage projects,  to new gas pipeline proposals,  there is work to be done....

Onward!
