4-6 June 2008, Third Annual Conference in Bil’in, Palestine
Bil’in has become a symbol both of the theft of land across Palestine and of the power of non-violent grassroots movements in building local and international resistance to Occupation. February 2008 marked the third anniversary of weekly non-violent protests in opposition to the "work-site of shame" for the Apartheid Wall that has annexed almost 60% of the land of Bil’in village in the West Bank. On September 4th 2007, after nearly three years of nonviolent protests in our village, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that Israel’s wall here must be moved further west, returning 250 acres of our farmland.

The year between June 2007 and May 2008 provides an effective framework for highlighting the ongoing Palestinian catastrophe:  90 years since the Balfour Declaration, 60 years since the Nakba, 41 years of Occupation, 26 years since Sabra/Shatila, 21 years since the First Intifada, 5 years of building the Apartheid Wall.

Join us in strategizing effective, concerted non-violent action in Palestine and across the globe!

WHEN: 4-6 June 2008 with a major non-violent action on the final day

WHERE:  Bil’in village near Ramallah, Palestine

Demonstration and Festival of Diversity, Bonn, Germany
Monday, May 12th, 2008

For biological diversity – regional, fair and GMO-free!

Meeting point: 10 a.m. Festival grounds (" Kleine Blumenwiese") Rheinaue park, Bonn
Starting on May 12th representatives from more than 190 countries around the world will be guests in Germany, negotiating about species extinction and genetic engineering, the control of seeds, over protected areas and agricultural diversity. These are questions of survival. Will more result than a voluntary declaration of intent? Will we see more in the media than ties and collars in front of microphones? Will the governmental delegates see and hear what the population here in Germany and across the world expect of them? A focus of the negotiations will be the question: who will be liable in the future for damages from GMOs? The answer of representatives from the industrial nations, including Germany, has been – no one. A free hand for international companies without liability insurance? That can’t be true!

USA: March 19, 2008: the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq,
the beginning of the 6th year of war and occupation, the 6th year of senseless death and massive destruction. For dates and details see: http://www.5yearstoomany.org/

2008 is a critical year in the efforts to bring an end to the war and occupation in Iraq. This is the year the anti-war movement must up the ante, pull out all of the stops and build so much pressure that the war will finally be brought to an end.
United for Peace and Justice is calling for and supporting a set of activities on and around the 5th anniversary that will manifest the intensifying opposition to the war and help strengthen our movement. We invite you to work with us to ensure the success of these actions.
